Vaccination Program
Given each employee will be due for their COVID-18 booster vaccination on different dates, the optimal timing of each employees COVID-19 vaccination varies. This presents a challenge to scheduling a COVID-19 workplace vaccination clinic, because many employees will be overdue for their vaccination by the date of the clinic, or it will be too early for their next dose.
We recommend that employees have their COVID-19 vaccination booster at their GP, a vaccination hub, or a pharmacy when it falls due. In future, if ongoing, regular COVID-19 boosters are recommended, workplace clinics could be scheduled to offer maximal, timely protection and convenience to the majority of employees e.g. workplaces run an annual COVID-19 booster clinic every June or July, or twice yearly, taking into account the ongoing need to schedule annual flu vaccinations between March and May annually.
About COVID-19 Boosters
Booster doses COVID-19 vaccinations are available for adults aged 18 or more, and children and adolescents aged 5-17 years who have medical comorbidities that increase their risk of severe COVID-19, or disability with significant or complex health needs.
The purpose of the fifth dose is to mitigate against waning immunity to the SARS-COV-2 Coronavirus and the emergence of new variants. Evidence on the benefits and risks of booster doses is particularly important for high-risk groups.
Given each individual is due for a booster dose at different times, the optimal timing of each employees’ booster is very varied. This presents a challenge to scheduling a workplace vaccination clinic.
Medimobile therefore presently recommends that employers encourage their employees to seek their third dose from a GP clinic, vaccination hub or pharmacy on or soon after the date it falls due.
We will continue to monitor the developments of the evidence informing timing of booster doses, and the suitability of booster clinics for the workplace setting.
